Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father had left the family of Ford, they were taken care of by her mom, grandmother and godparents. When she was a little girl, she struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She also experienced anxiety because of the word association. Ford's passion for acting started in her early years. She joined the National Youth Theatre. She had been accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of days, she realized that the school was not right for her. Ford decided to apply instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered an interview on her fourth try. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford was graduated in 1993, but in the meantime she already had made her debut on television in the 1991 season in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate also regularly worked as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of The Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up humor and humour, which she added to her repertoire in 1996, quickly gained her admiration.
